Financial Planning Intern – New Client Development Track
Job Summary:
Learn about the financial planning process, marketing and business development with an entry-level position. This internship position is in personal financial planning, with an emphasis on new client development. A financial planning intern in this track emphasizes developing new client business and relationships by prospecting and marketing as a primary emphasis, and managing high quality relationships as a secondary emphasis. By working in a medium-sized and rapidly growing local financial planning practice, this role will provide significant experience in broad business and finance-related activities on a regular basis.
Principal Responsibilities:
Identify new client business opportunities by contacting prospective clients.
Researching how a fee-only financial planner can help and support clients through the on-boarding process.
Take necessary notes and observations to build an understanding of all elements of financial planning.
Help generate enthusiasm and awareness about Callahan Financial Planning in the community by participating in local organizations and effective marketing efforts.
Assist in coordinating educational and other events on an on-going basis, including marketing, attendance and greeting.
Take detailed notes about every interaction with clients, prospects and outside firms.
Maintains technical knowledge by reading financial journals, attending workshops and related classes.
Greet, interact with and answer calls for current and prospective clients with inquiries about their financial plan or potentially becoming a client.
Maintain necessary office and client records.
Assist and support other financial planning staff members as needed.
Prepare data, analysis and reports for clients and Financial Planners.
Maintain a professional appearance and attitude in all activities and interactions.
Ensure company legal compliance by reviewing laws affecting our industry and assisting in the creation and monitoring of internal controls.
Monitor office workflows and prepare report of potential improvement ideas.
Assist in the maintenance, appearance and cleaning of the office as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Strong desire to interact with people regularly and frequently.
Software proficiency in various Office, Windows and Mac applications.
Ability to understand sophisticated financial concepts with a strong attention to detail.
Well-developed interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Education / Experience:
Currently pursuing Bachelor's Degree or higher related to economics, finance, banking or related areas.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in interacting with clients in a high-quality service environment required.
